Summary

Your role as a Software Architect

The Software Architect is responsible for creating the blueprints for the solutions provided by the Solutions Architect and turning them into actionable documentation to be used by the software development team. In this role you will actively participate in the implementation phase of the project, supporting the team in their implementation effort.

 

This position requires consensus-building skills with a proven ability to think strategically in a rapidly evolving environment. This role requires a unique blend of strong technical and business knowledge, solid interpersonal communication skills, along with awareness of technology and industry trends. Understanding of importance value creation for customers and key stakeholders is key in that position. Decisions need to be made to satisfy the customer needs, WJ product, organization's vision, business, culture, value proposition, brand promise, and strategic imperatives.

 

The main architecture team is based in Montreal for that reason the candidate needs to be independent, can work autonomously, and be able to respect the defined process and best practices. This role reports to the Director of Architecture and is based in our Melbourne office.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Perform architectural analysis and design and documentation for systems powering our products and services.
  • Provide documentation, guidelines, leadership, and expertise in the development of standards, design patterns, and development practices as well as communicate them to the teams regularly.
  • Ensure potential architectural risks are assessed, mitigated, and escalated to the appropriate governance bodies in a timely matter.
  • Design high-quality applications that are highly scalable, reliable, and extensible.
  • Participate in the development of the solution, contributing code, and reviewing the work of the development team to ensure that it conforms to the target architecture.
  • Act as a mentor/coach to software developers to enable the individuals and the organization to develop a scalable and stable solution landscape.
  • Makes expert recommendations and decisions linked to the organization's strategy and financial goals.
  • Work collaboratively within the Canadian team to continue driving world class customer experiences, and have fun doing so!

 

Job task distribution:

As a software architect is expected to see this time be split to

  • About 40% of his time creating/updating documentation
  • About 30% of his time to dev with the team
  • About 30% of his time coaching/helping the team with current technical issues

 

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 year’s experience in IT with at least 3 years as a Software Architect, supporting complex technical environments.
  • Experience with: Micro-services, distributed systems, data and object modeling, Java, big data, cloud, integration, messaging, information security, and Identity Management technologies.
  • Experience in an Agile development environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present to senior business and technology stakeholders.

 

Although this is a remote position, employees have the option of working remotely and/or from the office at Level 8/454 Collins St, Melbourne.
